Dr. Sagar Bhargava

Dr Sagar Bhargava is an extremely knowledgeable, senior clinician and a surgeon par excellence with more than 12 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology. Dr Bhargava is attached with B B Eye Foundation VIP, Kolkata, previously he was attached as Deputy Director – Sankara Nethralaya, Kolkata where he served as Senior Consultant – Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery department.

After completing his MBBS and Masters of Surgery (Ophthalmology) from Govt. Medical College, Auragabad, Maharastra, Dr. Bhargava joined fellowship in General Ophthalmology at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai and was trained under prominent Ophthalmologists like Dr. K. Ravishankar, Dr. T.S.Surendran, Dr. Prema Padmanabhan, Dr. G. Sitalakshmi and Dr. L. Vijaya. After completing fellowship, Dr Bhargava was appointed as Associate Consultant at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. He was further transferred to Sankara Nethralaya, Kolkata in 2009 and since then he has been leading surgeon. He was recognized as the Best Associate Consultant during his tenure of work at Sankara Nethralaya.

During his decade long association with Sankara Nethralaya, Dr. Bhargava has always taken a keen interest in passing on his knowledge to others and has personally trained many fellows in Cataract and Glaucoma. While working in Sankara Nethralaya, Dr Bhargava was the first to use Femtosecond Lasik, i.e., bladeless Lasik in east. He was also the first to use Multifocal Toric IOL in east. He was also the first to start Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), congenital Glaucoma Surgery and Cataract Surgery in extremely subluxated lens with use of various devices like Cionni’s ring in Sankara Nethralaya, Kolkata.

Dr. Bhargava is very proficient in all types of Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgeries. He has performed more than 10000 surgeries.

Dr. Bhargava is also very inclined towards academics since his starting of the career and he was awarded Dr Pandit Palitkar Memorial Prize for standing first in first MBBS University Examination in 1995. He is always ready to upgrade his knowledge. He has major contributions to various national and international journals. He has published articles in the field of Cataract and Glaucoma and has had many presentations at national and international forum.

He has also been an instructor of a cataract course in Annual meet of American Soceity of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. Bhargava is known amongst his patients for his humble behaviour. Dr Bhargava is also very popular amongst his peer groups and subordinates for his helping nature and smiling behaviour.
